Note by HDE 11 Dec 2012:
References are found to three "Patsy" Ethingtons in the Culpeper area and KY in the early 1800's. They are found in this work as:
RIN 17996 Patsy Ethington of Culpeper VA
RIN 2645 Patsy Ethington dau of James Ethington of Trimble Co KY
(See note below) Patsy Ethington, resident of the Culpeper Co VA poorhouse in 1850Work is needed to more fully identify the person, or persons involved with this name.
===================================An interesting reference is made in the 1850 Culpeper County VA census to one Patsy Etherton. It is as follows:
Census of 1850, 20 Aug 1850, Culpeper County VA page 227
Margin note states that this section is for the "Poor House".
Line 5 Patsy Etherton age 65 or age 45 (not clear), Female, born VA, a pauper
Line 23 Lucy Etherton, age 40, Female, born VA, cannot read, a pauper
There are two problems with the identification of this Lucy Etherton. First, If Lucy Ethington, daughter of William and Caty, married William Wise as indicated in May of 1815, Why would she now be referred to as Lucy Etherton? And second, the age of this Lucy is given as 40 years old, or, born in 1810. It is well documented that Lucy, Daughter of William and Caty, was born in 1799/1800. We do know however, that Lucy was given over to the overseer of the poor, which, coupled with this reference in 1850 could indicate a lifetime of poverty.Need to follow William and Lucy WISE, to see if they are in the area at this time.
Will add Lucy Etherton, resident of the Poor House in 1850, as a new individual until further information is obtained. See her record: Lucy Ethington, RIN 17997 . See Lucy Ethington, daughter of William and Caty, RIN 2873.
The 1850 census copy will be filed in both Lucy 17997, and Lucy 2873 files.
The name of Patsy Etherton has not been seen in any Culpeper records to date. Her identification is not known. If she was born as indicated in 1785, she would be of the generation of the children of William and Caty. Note that William and Caty did have a daughter named Jane who was born in 1780. She married James Dillard in 1800.Will enter Patsy Etherton of the Culpeper Poor House in 1850 as a new individual, no parents. Need further information. Copy of 1850 census filed in her file.
7 Dec 2012:
I find a Culpeper court order as follows:Culpeper Court Orders 16 Feb 1829 page 158
On the motion of Patsy Etherton, it is ___ and ordered that Henry Hume be summoned to show cause if any he can why the indenture binding William Etherton to him shall ____ be ____ and ___.See file of "Patsy Ethington, Culpeper VA 1829"
Need further information.
Lucy, youngest child of William and Caty, mentioned in land deal. Mother Caty had use of the land "Till Lucy came of age". Married to William Wise in Culpeper, appears that she did not migrate to Kentucky with her brothers and sisters.
See notes for her father for information about this marriage.

In the 1810 census of Culpeper County VA another Benjamin Edrington is found. He is born prior to 1765 (age 45+ in 1810), and a male 10-16 and female 16-26 living with him. His presence in this same year, in a neighboring county, and about 20 years older than Benjamin-3423, son of John, indicates a second unidentified Benjamin Edenton in the area. He will be entered as a new individual, RIN # 18179. He may be the son of James and Lucy (Peterson) Edenton of Spots County. Need more information.
Record of F.I.J. Edington is found in the LDS archives in Salt Lake City, a record of The East Central States Mission. Edington is recorded as a member of the LDS church, baptized by Joseph H. Freeman on 28 May 1905. He was confirmed the same day by Elder Freeman. He was born on 1 May 1872.
This membership was cancelled on 10 Aug 1931 without comment.
The initials "F.I.J." may be in error, they were difficult to read.
Recent research (Sept 2008) show a great deal of EThington activity in the Clayvillage area of Shelby County in the early 1900's. This record entered here for further research to identify the family.
