"Levi" is recorded as a slave of David Shelton in the estate sale bill below.  He was purchased by James Ross for $626 in Oct 1839.

See deed book D page 280,  David Shelton and Henrietta his wife of Owen Co Ky to Jesse Threlkeld for $55 a tract of land on which Shelton resides. Dated 22 Feb 1832

This family may have been submitted for temple work by Jacki Ethington Lee in April, 1984.

 ... The church is the Greenup Fork, Owen County cemetery Baptist and Wast family cemetery and church cemetery.  It was constituted and organized July 27, 1822 and lists David Shelton, Henrietta Shelton, Peter Shelton and Austin Shelton as enrolled in the consitution.  The church that is presently there now was build in 1833.  Here are directions to the church:

 Turn East from Hwy #35 a half mile south from where that road crosses severn Creek, six miles South of Owenton KY.  Follow this the Hessler road two miles. This church is on a slight elevation facing the Hessler road.

Per Mildred Ritchie, death date was Sep 1859.  This does not fit with will dated cited above.  Says also that "David left (Virginia?) between 1787 and 1800, lived at Savern Creek near Greenup Fork.  EP (?) is in the same vicinity.

Will dated SEP 1826, filed 1838 in Owen Co Ky.  Names ten children. Deed book "B" page 344.

One Mariah Booker age 50 (b. 1820) is found in the 1870 Henry County census living with the William P. Thorn family as a domestic servant.  She is Black, and two black boys (Newton age 9 and JOhn age 4) live with her.  It is not know if this is the same Mariah as the former slave of David Shelton.

John ETHERTON

The identity of this John Etherton is not known at this date (June 2004). A record of his will is found in the Henry County KY will book #1 page 91.  Show much property, and one negro girl named Charity.  Appraisal August 1806 by E.F. Martina, John Steward, and Benjamin Perry.  

This is possibly John Edrington, husband of Loveday?, or one of his descendants.
