Letter from Ray George Ethington dated 31 Jan 1991:
"My great-grandfather was William Eathington. His date of birth is unknown. He married Maria Suydam Todd on July 7, 1872. He died May 21, 1908 in Greenbush, IL. I haven't been able to find out where he came from or any family connections. His wife's great-grandfather, John Todd, came from Langford, Ireland with his parents to New Jersey in 1749. She was born Nov 13, 1838 and died Jan 3 1987."

William is found in the 1900 Warren Co Il census page 45. Says that his parents were both born in Ky. Is living with his son Charles. He is born in Feb 1840. Is a widower.
Death date given by Ray G. Ethington as 3 Jan 1987 must be in error since birth date is given as 13 Nov 1838. Need further information.

Letter from Ray G. Ethington dated 12 Jan 1983:
"Since I last wrote to you I have come across some history of my Great Grandmother's family. Her name was Maria Saydum Todd (1839-1887) and she lived in the small town of Greenbush IL. At one time it was named Greenfield, and I do not know what year the name was changed. She was one of 11 children of a John J. Todd (1796-1879) and a Jane Vandom McClure Todd (1798-1884), who moved to that area from Bedminster NJ in 1856 when he was 60 years old. In 1872 she married a William Eathington in the town of Berwick, another small farming town about 12 miles from Greenbush. So far I have not been able to get a line on this Eathington, his family, or where he came from etc. But I did find one other complication. In the marriage registration book at the county court house the name was entered as Eathrington. Unfortunately, his marriage license is in a group that is lost, so I don't know if this is a correct spelling of his name at that time or not. I have searched the courhouse records of surrounding counties and can't find any other rrecord of a Eathington or Eathrington's marriage or death before this time."
