Letter from Reed Ethington of Chandler AZ to HDE 20 Dec 2000:

"...In looking through some of my records I came across this old letter from L.C. Woods from Pleaseureville KY written in 1954.  I thought you might find it interesting."

That letter follows:

Pleasureville KY
Oct 7, 1954

Dear Mr. Ethington

In reply to your recent letter, I went to Shelbyville to talk to Robert Ethington's widow regarding Annie Wood, wife of George Washington Ethington.  She was the daughter of William Wood born in Va about 1800, and his wife was Sara Mueller born about 1806.  We do not now where she was born, but William Wood met her at a quilting party in Middletown Ky. He used to wagon sugar etc. from Louisville--stopped there to spend the night to rest his horse.  They were married in Middletown about 1826.  She died when my father, Stephen Wood was born in 1848.  Her father's name was Barton Mueller.  William Wood's father was Richard Wood, born in England.

This is all the information we have.  My father was the youngest child of eight, and we cannot find the old bible with the correct dates.

Hope this is the information you need.  Am returning your check.

                          Yours truly

                          L. C. Wood

Notes by HDE:
 1.  "I went to Shelbyville to talk to Robert Ethington's widow regarding Annie Wood."  This is probably a reference to Robert Lee Ethington (son of George Washington Ethington and Nancy Ann Wood) and Robert's wife Ida Mary Wood.  Ida died in February 1959, just four years after this letter was written in Shelbyville.  Robert had died earlier in 1932.

 2.  Middletown Kentucky lies about 10 miles East of Louisville on present day US 60.  It is about 30 miles from Shelbyville.

Sarah Ann MILLER

From Pat Beadle:
Sarah Miller was born about 1810, Jefferson Co. KY, died about 1857 in Shelby Co KY.  Buried at Union Church.  Daughter of Wendell Miller (?) and Nancy Stucky.

William H. WOOD

Moved to Missouri, died there.
