The 1910 soundex comfirms that Lavern is indeed son of James and Nancy Ethington.Texas death records may show that James W. Ethington died 11 Nov 1939 in Dallas. This is not clear at all, and needs to be confirmed with definate records. See FHL films 1,380,775

Martha Ethington was married to Benjamine F. Harper in Fayette County Texas
on 19 Feb 1858. She was almost 16 years old at the time, and she and her new
husband should be found in the 1860 Texas census. A search for this census
record has been made, but to date (10 Feb 1995) it has not been found. On 29 Sep 1858, Martha C. (A.?) ETHINGTON marrys James Seay, again in Fayette
County. It is not known what happened to Benjamine F. Harper, but Martha is
referred to by her maiden name of Ethington. She and James Seay are not found
in the 1870 census, but the following family appears in the 1880 Fayette County
Texas census:Bastrop County Texas 1880 census page 212 174/181
Seay, J. P. W M age 66 laborer born SC (1814)
Martha A. (S.?)W F 35 wife born TX (1845)
Walter W M 11 son born TX (1869)
Georgie W M 9 son born TX (1871)
Sarah W F 7 dau born TX (1873)
James W M 3 son born TX (1877)
Marshall W M 2 son born TX (1878)
Nancy W F 3/12 dau born TX (1880)It is known that George W. Ethington, father of Martha, died in Seguine Texas
at the home of his daughter, Martha Seay. The Seay family to this day recognizes that the Ethington family is related to it, and sends notices of"Seay / Ethington" family reunions. The burial of George W. Ethington has been
located at the Dugger Cemetery, just south of Seguine Texas, where he is buried
next to the grave of his daughter, Martha Seay. The gravestones note that they
are father and daughter. However, this is not sufficient to positivily identify this family as the
famly of Martha Ethington. There are only two points of convergence: (1) the
first name of the wife, and (2) her age. More is needed.Additionaly information is found in Seguin, Guadalupe county, where George W.
Ethington dies and is buried. There, his daughter's grave is next to his, and
she is identified as Martha Seay. I felt that if I could find the children
listed in the 1880 Bastrop County family living or somehow connected to Martha
Seay in Seguin, that would be the link needed. Such information has been
found. There are three items that support the thesis. First, a son "Walter", age 11
(born 1869) is listed in the Bastrop family. Buried next to Martha Seay and
George W. Ethington in the Dugger Cemetery, is Walter S. Seay, born 23 Dec
1868. Second, the Bastrop family shows two sons: James, born 1877, and
Marshall, born 1878. In the Guadalupe 1900 census, we find two Seay men living
in the same household with their wives and children. They are Jim Seay, born
Feb 1875, and Marshall, born Nov 1877. While these years are not exact matches
with the birth years of the Guadalupe family, I feel they are close enough
considering the way ages were stated in the census, to conclude that the two
families are one and the same. Conclusions: Martha Ethington married (1st) Benjamine F. Harper in Fayette
County Texas in February 1858 at the age of 15. We do not know where they
lived in 1860, or what happened to this family, but in September of 1868 Martha
marries James P. Seay, again, in Fayette County. She is identified on the
marriage record as Martha ETHINGTON.Martha and James Seay lived in Bastrop County Texas in the year 1880. They
had 6 children at that time, the youngest being just three months old in June,
the month the census was taken. At some point they moved to Guadalupe County,
and appear to have resided south of Seguin, where the family is buried in the
Dugger Cemetery located 8 miles south of town. There are many descendants of
Martha and James, as the family continues to hold reunions to this day.- Harold D. Ethington

The two girls appear to be about 10 and 12, so the photo would have been taken

Lived in Seguin: 38 Years (arrived 1887)I found these two marriages for Martha. As far as I can tell, she is the
only Martha in Fayette county. However, she would only have been 15 when she got married the first time. The second time, she was still listed as Martha Etherton, not Martha Harper. It is too soon for a daughter, so maybe the marriage was annulled or divorced. From marriage of Fayette County, TX in Alb.
