William Hiram ETHINGTON

Entry was made sometime before 2000 by HDE for a child of James Hiram Ethington, mother and child's first name unknown as follows:

"First name is not clear in census.  Looks like _intie."

The birth was given as KY, in 1888.  I did not record which census this record was taken from, and cannot now find it.
With current information, must conclude that this partial entry for this unknown male child, must have been William H., son of James Hiram and wife Mary.  Will combine records.  Temple work done under "Mr. Ethington", B: 26 Jul 2000 TIMP, E: 21 Feb 2001 BOUNT.

Letter from James Hiram Ethington to the Editor of the Lexington Herald,  February, 1920

Editor, Lexington Herald
I desire to thank my friends for their kindnesses and sympathy shown in the great trial of the death of my son, William H. Ethington who was killed Monday during the trouble at the courhouse, also those that sent flowers, and I also thank the police at Lexington for the kindness shown to the boy.

They proved they did not want to hurt any one but wanted to keep the crowd back if possible without hurting any one.  i also wish to thank the young soldiers on the fron  line that shot their guns in the air and did not wish to hurt anyone.  I can not thank those that shot from the window where the first shot came from.  For every time a shot was fired I could see a man fall and they were killing men that did not have anything to protect themselves with and did not wish to hurt anyone but wanted to get that negro who murdered little Geneva Hardman.

I think that if those men had taken it home to themselves and could have thought "if it had been my little daughter that had been mangled up by a brut like that "  they certanily could not have killled the boys as they did.
                                - J. H. Ethington
