Vest, Christina m-in-law W F born Jul 1836, age 63 widow 11 children 6 living KY KY KY
Vest, Jonathan s-son W M born Aug 1872, age 27 single KY KY KY farm laborerWe see from the census record the following:
1. Delilah, daughter of Zerubabal Vest and Christina Derringer apparently lost her husband William Harlow, and has remarried to John Dowdy, a man almost 20 years her senior. They were married within the year.
2. The report of 0 children born, and 0 children living must apply only to the current marriage with Mr. Dowdy, for a son from Delilah's marriage to Harlow is living with them.
3. Delilah married William Harlow on 29 Nov 1876 in Henry County KY. Son Frank was born March of 1887. It is likely that there were other children. Search needs to be made for the period 1876 to 1900.
4. Delilah's mother Christina Derringer Vest is living with Delilah and her new husband. In 1880, Christina, as a widow, was holding the complete family together on a farm in Henry County. She now appears without property, and living with her daughter. It will be interesting to piece together her life during the past 20 years.5. Christina reports that she is the mother of 11 children, 6 of whom are living. At this date, this record shows 12 children for her. Will have to re-evaluate in light of this statement. Also, only 6 living. Need to understand this.
6. The identification of Jonathan Vest as a step-son to John Dowdy is puzzling. He is older than Delila's son Frank Harlow by 5 years, and was born 4 years prior to her marriage to Harlow when Delilah was only 17. This Jonathan is most likely Christina's youngest son, a Jonathan Vest who appears in the 1880 census with Christina as a 7 year old boy. He would be 27 in 1900. Will assume this identification until proof to the contrary. Note also that he is listed under Christina, a census taker's method for showing relationships.

Vest, Christina mother in law F W 73 Widow KY KY KYIn this census we find that Delilah's son from her first marriage is (Frank) Wesley Harlow. We also have confirmation that Delilah was married once before. Also, it appears that John Dowdy and Delilah do not have any children. Note that Frank Wesley Harlow, age 32, has not married. Son Thomas Vest appears in this census on page 209.
Christina Derringer Vest moved from Henry County KY to Greenup County KY between the 1880 and 1900 census. She is found in Greenup County in 1900 and 1910, living with her daughter Delilah (who remattied to John Dowdy). Christina is not found in the 1920 census, and likely died between 1910 and 1920. She may be buried in the town of Fullerton, where her daughter was living in 1920.
See census records for Zerubable Vest, and daughter Delilah Vest.

Obituary for Iva Ethington (in file):
Mrs Iva Ethington, 82, a resident of Nelson County for over 60 years, died at 7:50 p.m. Monday September 7, at her home on the Shepherdsville Road, near Bardstown. She had been in ill health since July, following a stroke.
Unusually active for her age, "Miss Iva" took great pleasure in raising a garden and flowers, doing the work herself and sharing the results of her labors with others. She had said on many occasions when asked when she was going to "retire"; "I'm never going to rust out, I'll wear out."
A native of Franklin County, she came with her family to Nelson County, near Deatsville, over 60 years ago. Her husband, C.L. Ethington, a farmer, died 30 years ago.
Was Seamstress
As a young woman, Mrs. Ethington was a seamstress at Stewart's in Louisville, doing alterations and fittings. Later, many of the community, especially the young men, thought only she could properly hem their suit pants, or alter their coats. She was a life long member of the New Salem Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Ray Ethington, a grandson, Roy Lee Ethington, and three great grandsons, who resided with Mrs. Ethington; three sisters, Mrs. P.H. Ethington, Casa Grande Ariz.; Mrs. Edgar Ethington, Chandler Ariz.; Mrs. Jessie Lindsey, LaGrange; a brother, Kirby Phillips, Hodgenville.
